Television vs Canvas
How do choose a canvas for digital art.
One of the first questions new entrants to the digital art market ask is which display to purchase. While Blackdove's software works on all displays including consumer televisions, if you are installing digital art as a permanent installation, you will want to purchase a display that complies with some basic standards; 1. Local hard drive 2. AutoBoot to art (versus having to launch an app) 3. Native portrait orientation 4. No logo on bezel 5. Even bezel around the entire display The Samsung Frame (which we helped create (https://insights.samsung.com/2015/10/27/blackdove-brings-digital-art-to-business-and-home-interiors-video/) unfortunately has a few key flaws which is why we are not yet ready to recommend: Flaws: 1. Frame was designed for still image artwork only, so the Art mode does not work with any video 2. No local hard drive to store the art so you will be streaming all the time and get buffering 3. Has an extra media player box that has to be hidden somewhere Consumer televisions unfortunately have NONE of the above features, so are not approved for permanent installations. Blackdove is not a manufacturer of displays. We integrate our software with a wide range of displays and therefore have selected recommended displays that meet with the optimal playback of digital art. The line of displays we sell from Samsung and LG are commercial grade displays that; 1. Have local HD 2. AutoBoot to Art 3. Play video and still images 4. Have an even bezel 5. Are designed for 24/7/365 6. Have 2x the brightness of consumer displays which is needed for most locations
Blackdove’s technology works across all displays however there are differences to understand for your installation.e
